5th Avenue Theater Awards
does all of the choreography for the plays at the high school we used to go to. This past season, the performed the musical How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. She put in a lot of hard work, and it turned out really cute.
Every year, the 5th Avenue Theater gives out awards to different high schools. They travel around the state, watch all of the musicals, then nominate different shows for different categories. It's an event like something similar to the Tony Awards.
Well this year my sister, because she is so talented I suppose, made is so that Hanford High School was nominated for the "Best Choreography" award (among 13 other nominations).
So about a week and a half ago, my mom, sister and I packed up and spent the day in Seattle. Afterall, if they won the award, Kelsey would be the one to accept it.
We left around 7, making it up in time for a quick rehearsal (the school was to perform a song from the show, as they were nominated for the "Best Overall Musical" award as well).
Maybe it was because they only had 20 minutes to practice, or perhaps it was because it was fairly important that they work quickly to get the spacing down, but regardless, Kelsey whipped out some yelling and directing skills that I didn't really know were packed up inside of her.
Afterwards, we were able to relax a bit. We enjoyed a lunch at the Cheesecake Factory and some shopping, before returning back for the ceremony that evening.
Our cousin Heather was even able to come and join us, which made it even that much better.
We were also joined by a few (thousand) other people hoping to receive some awards as well.
Once the show started, there was more singing and dancing than you could imagine. But most of it was actually pretty good.
Unfortunately, Kelsey did not receive the award, but the show did win the "Best Overall Show" award, which they were very excited about.
Nice Work Kelsey!
