Until Next Year . . .

Today, my beautiful cousin Sarah leaves for Korea.

She is going away for a year on a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and will be teaching small Korean children how to speak English.

She is an amazing person, and I know she will have an amazing time.

The only downfall to this whole thing is that we won't see her for an entire year.

A year is a long time.

But regardless, I know she will have a great time, and hopefully that year will simply fly by!

Be safe, and have fun Sarah!

An Overnight Getaway

So for a little bit of history behind this post, I will take you back to September of 1988.

I was 16 months old at that point, and my grandparents lived down in California at the time. We would go down to visit often, and happened to go in this particular month of this particular year. While we were there, we attended a wedding.

It was a wedding for my mom's cousin Sue, and her now-husband Eric.

This wasn't just any particular wedding; however. It wasn't your typical white-dress wedding that took place in a wedding hall, with a reception to follow.

Ok, I guess there was a white dress.

But as for the location, that part was a little unique.

This wedding took place in the stands of the USC - Nebraska game at the Rose Bowl during half time.

I'm told I even made it on TV, although I don't really remember. . .

Anyway, after this wedding, my mom, or any of my family for that matter, had not seen these people for a good 18 years (until my great-uncle Gus died a few years ago.)

Over the weekend; however, they happened to be in Seattle to see the Huskies play Nebraska.

As you can tell, they are big Nebraska fans.

So on Friday morning, once I was home from work, my mom, sister, grandpa and I packed up and headed over to meet them. It was a nice little getaway, even though it was just overnight.

We began our day by picking them up from their hotel, and headed here:

To Pikes Place Market. Sue and Eric had never been to Seattle before, so we wanted to play the typical 'tourist' rolls, and figured this would be a good place to begin.

So we started by marveling at the amazing flowers they have for sale . . .

Then went to see the massive amounts of fish for sale as well. And of course, there was some throwing of the fish involved too.

Unfortunately, because we were trying to play tourist, and only had about half a day to do it in, we weren't able to spend much time at Pike's Place before we headed down to the waterfront. Even though it was a typical rainy day, I still love the waterfront. I love the ocean in general, and it made me want to go to the beach even more than I already did.

We ended up eating lunch down there . . .

And even had this amazing view from our table.

Our next stop on the list . . . The Space Needle. We figured what better of a way to see all of Seattle in a short amount of time then seeing it all at once from the top?

I've probably been up there a good half dozen times now, but it's still amazing every time. Unfortunately it was still rainy, but that doesn't stop that city in the slightest.

The rest of the trip was spent talking and catching up, a short visit from my aunt, uncle, and cousin, and lots of shopping.

I even managed to find favors for the wedding . . . thank goodness for Ikea. It's amazing how this wedding manages to make it's way into everything these days . . .

And by Saturday evening, we were home. Like I say, a short little getaway, but overall, a very fun weekend!

Guess What We Have . . .

A Fence!

Once again, Joel and Tommy have been hard at work . . .

We ended up teaming up with our neighbor and going in on everything together. So they drew up the plans, bought the supplies, and after a weekend or two, we had our fence!

I've been very thankful for all of the hard work Joel and Tommy have put into our house. This is another step toward the completion of our house, and it's defintately getting there! I'm already so proud to say I have a house of my own, and the fact that it's almost a completed house, with a yard and everything, makes me so happy!

It's Almost Here!

It's no secret to those who know me know that I absolutely love the fall. While most people become depressed as the weather turns gray, I am the complete opposite.

As I sit here on a dreary morning, drinking my first cup of homeade coffee for the season and watching The Gilmore Girls, I realize how close it is.

From late September until early January, I am a very happy person. I love everything that comes alongside the season: the weather, the holidays, the decorations . . .

It's no lie that I absolutely love the cold weather. I would much rather be found wearing sweatshirts and jeans instead of shorts and tank tops. I love the cool, crisp air that comes with it, and watching the leaves turn multiple colors. I love the jackets, and really all the clothes that go with it.

I love that the stores are filled with pumpkins, leaves, browns and oranges. Having a house this year has made it even that much better, and trust me, I have began buying the decorations to fill it. Halloween candy is already lining the isles, and although it's not my favorite holiday, it simply makes me happy because it means fall is here.

I love that the small talk in my family has turned to which Pittsburgh Steelers are being traded to and from the team. Football season is here, and I couldn't be happier. (Another post about those Steelers games to come.)

All of the signs are begging to appear, and fall is just around the corner. And because we are just beginning to hit the season, I have so many things to look forward to:

Pumpkin spite lattes . . . Trips to the Country Mercantile . . .Cute jackets . . . Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins . . . Christmas music . . . Halloween movies . . . Hot chocolate . . . Being cozy with a blanket and a good book . . . Cold weather . . . The list is endless.

**********************************************************************************

And plus, the fall season means that winter is next.

And winter means Christmas, New Years, and a wedding . . .

. . . which makes it all the better this year.
