How to Successfully Catch a Fly

First, you must gather your supplies.
A rolled up piece of cardboard and a plastic cup seem to work well.

Next, you must begin to hunt the fly down.
The key is, you must be sneaky enough for him not to see you.

Third, you must figure out when the fly is least expecting you, and go for it.
Be sure to be quick!

And finally, scoop up the fly, and dispose of him accordingly.
Give yourself a pat on the back . . . you've just out-smarted a fly!

Trifle

It is no secret that I cannot cook. It's mostly due to the fact that I really don't know how, and honestly I don't enjoy it too much either. This combination has made it so that I have not put a large effort toward learning, but someday I will . . .

Anyway, this makes it a little difficult when someone is having a party, and you want to offer to bring something. If you can't cook, how can you put something together everyone will like?!

My mom (who can cook) has always made this desert, something that I like to call 'Trifle.' Who know's what it's original name is, but regardless, it's my absolute favorite summer desert.

So this year, I decided I would learn how to make the Trifle. I have already brought it to two or three parties, and everyone seems to enjoy it! It's mindless, it's easy, and it takes about 10 minutes to make: something perfect for someone who can't cook :)

So I figured I would share with you how it's made. Like I say, it's very simple, and tastes delicious!

Ingredients:

Pound Cake

Strawberries
Cheesecake Pudding

Cool Whip

Milk

Step 1: Cut pound cake into small squares and strawberries into small chunks:

Step 2: Find empty bowl. Spread layer of pound cake into the bottom of the bowl.

Step 3: Spread layer of strawberries over pound cake.

Step 4: In mixing bowl, mix:

1 package of cheesecake pudding dry powder
1 1/2 cups of milk
1 container of Cool Whip

Step 5: Pour part of mixture over top of layered pound cake and strawberries.

Step 6: Repeat

Delicious!

More Houses and More . . . Warming?

We attended another housewarming party over the weekend.

It was for our good friends Tommy and Terra.

They bought a house a couple of weeks after us, which happens to be just a couple blocks away. (It becomes convenient when we do almost everything together :)

We had a great time!

Time to Catch Up

So it has already been almost 3 weeks since the reunion, and time is flying. For those of you few readers, you are probably wondering where the heck we've been.

Well, we've been busy. Very busy it seems like. Sometimes I take a minute and wonder what the heck I've been doing to make the days seem like they are flying by lately. At the same time, the to-do list seems to keep growing. I can see why people say that time seems to fly by even faster as you get older. I can't even imagine how fast it will go once kids are added to the picture . . .

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy being busy. It just seems that lately for some reason it has stepped itself up a notch. Even last night Joel mentioned we haven't even had a minute to stop and take in everything that has been going on. That coming from someone who thrives on the go-go-go lifestyle means a little something.

Lately it seems to be wedding planning that is taking up a lot of time, but things on the wedding front seem to be going well. Trying to find a time to meet with people when Joel, myself, and occasionally my mom are available is sometimes kind of tricky. I've been trying to think things through and make sure I'm not missing anything at this point, and I actually think we've been doing pretty well. My mom and I have really been working to get the save-the-date cards done, which at this point are becoming overdue, and will then be moving on to the invitations.

Speaking of making things, I am finally getting my thank-you cards out from our housewarming party, something I am almost embarassed to admit I haven't done yet. So to all of you who were there, one is one it's way. . .

Some congratulations are in order as well since I've last posted. I've been trying to spend some time on my days off to get together with friends, as I don't enjoy when months go by and I haven't seen people.

The first congratulations goes out to my friend Ashley and her husband Joel, who had baby Ali about 2 weeks ago. Well, she is beautiful. I was lucky enough to be there for her birth, as well as being their nurse. (It is reasons like this that make me appreciate my job even more.) I got together with Ashley today for a bit, and things seem to be going well now for them. I'm so happy they are loving parenthood.

The second congratulations goes out to my friend Megan, and her now husband, Bryan. They celebrated a beautiful wedding a week and a half ago. I was lucky enough to be part of that as well, and had a great time! I was even fortunate enough to see my friend Holly who came down from Seattle, who I haven't seen for quite a few months.

So now I prepare to work 5 days in a row, starting this weekend. This probably doesn't sound like much, but is something that I hardly ever do. I tend to be 'dead to the world,' so to speak when working a few days in a row, just coming home, sleeping all day, and going right back again. So if you don't hear from me, that would be the reason. Good thing I love my job. :)

2010 Wehner Family Reunion: Day 8

On 'Day 8,' the rest of the family (my Aunt Patty's family had already left) were ready to head back to Seattle. My Uncle Peter and family were scheduled to fly out the next day, back home to Washington D.C.

The last day always seems to be the hardest, especially for my grandparents. Majority of my family we only see once a year, and thinking about the mystery of what the next year will bring always makes it even that much harder for them.

Even though it was the last day, we still managed to make the best of it. The morning was spent admiring 'Uncle Ali's' police gear:

And a violin recital from Christine:

Then the goodbye's started:

Let the cleanup begin!
Who forgot their shoe?!

Until next year, Wehner family . . .
